Dr. s. craig gerlach

Professor of Cross-Cultural Studies, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. S. Craig Gerlach has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1988 to 2013; and

WHEREAS Dr. Gerlach focused considerable attention on teaching and graduate program development activities, brought extensive expertise in sustainable development to bear in master’s and doctoral degree programs, and mentored master’s and doctoral degree candidates through the completion of their programs by serving as chair or member of their thesis or dissertation committee; and

WHEREAS Dr. Gerlach’s research on food systems and sustainable livelihoods has attracted attention throughout Alaska and beyond, and synthesizes information from diverse sources to formulate provocative and productive insights into the cultural manifestations of human behavior, much of which has significant implications for University programs; and success in securing external funding supported his graduate students’ own research efforts, primarily in high-latitude food systems; and

WHEREAS Dr. Gerlach has been exceptionally productive in public service, thereby bringing prestige to the University through his many roles as presenter, peer reviewer, board member, consultant and volunteer with a remarkable range of entities, from local concerns to distinguished international organizations and institutions;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. S. Craig Gerlach for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Gerlach and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. S. Craig Gerlach as Professor of Cross-Cultural Studies, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. S. Craig Gerlach, and conveyed to Dr. Gerlach on this day of May 11, 2014.
