Mr. Mike Davis

Associate Professor of Rural Development, Emeritus

Whereas Mr. Mike Davis has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and public service from 1996 to 2014; and

WHEREAS Mr. Davis has taught nearly two dozen rural development courses and has helped expand that program in Southwest Alaska; has helped implement a master of arts degree program in rural development, whereby graduate classes can be offered in conjunction with undergraduate classes; and has further served as a dedicated advisor to undergraduate and graduate students alike; and

WHEREAS Mr. Davis has organized and led a variety of governmental and leadership seminars in Juneau, Barrow, Bethel, Dillingham and Unalaska such that students witnessed firsthand the confluence of local and traditional knowledge, environmental change and development in the northern latitudes, and the legislative process; and

WHEREAS Mr. Davis has served ably in administrative and leadership roles at the University, notably as a member of the Faculty Senate for many years, and has initiated a variety of community-based classes whose wide-ranging topics demonstrate a keen understanding of the needs and interests of the region, such as set netting, tribal management and youth leadership;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Mike Davis for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Davis and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Mike Davis as Associate Professor of Rural Development, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Mike Davis, and conveyed to Mr. Davis on this day of May 11, 2014.
