Dr. Jonah H. Lee

Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Emeritus

Dr. Jonah H. Lee has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1984 to 2013.

He has greatly enhanced the educational experience of mechanical engineering students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, making a significant and lasting impression on them through his mentoring and guidance, and instilling in them a respect for science and engineering by challenging them to think rigorously and produce exceptional work.

He has secured more than $16 million in external funding for research in areas of significant importance to the U.S. Department of Defense, has published more than eighty research papers, and has significantly improved collaborative university-industry research efforts through his leadership in the development of the U.S. Army Automotive Research Center.

His leadership and service within the University include serving as Chair of the Mechanical Engineering program, developing nine advanced courses in the program, and being a strong force in the development of a fast-track BS/MS program in mechanical engineering.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Jonah H. Lee for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University.
