Ms. Debra Moses
Associate Professor of Developmental Mathematics, Emeritus
Ms. Debra Moses served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction from 1997 to 2012.
She was an exceptional instructor, a knowledgeable advisor, and a generous and intellectual colleague. She was known as a strong and gentle soul whose kindness toward others, particularly students, will always be a part of her legacy at the University.
As an instructor, Ms. Moses was in turns demanding of and nurturing to her students. She was responsive to their individual needs while helping them understand the mathematical concepts they needed in order to advance. She had a love of her subject that motivated even the most reluctant student. She was not only a tireless instructor but a wise advisor, who took the time and attention to understand students’ stories and help them identify and reach their goals. Her undergraduate advising twice earned her the Feist-Schamel Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award in 2007 and again in 2010.
Ms. Moses was also a professor of service. She served on multiple committees, giving her sage input and offering her voice of reason. She was outspoken in her support of students, especially of the underserved population at UAF, including nontraditional and developmental students.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Debra Moses for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University;
