Dr. John W. Keller
Professor of Chemistry, Emeritus
Dr. John W. Keller has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1979 to 2012.
He is an accomplished teacher and researcher. He was a founding member of the biochemistry and molecular biology program at the University, a program that has grown significantly since its inception in 1985. He has a taught a broad range of classes, and his research program has attracted student participants from all levels, including high school students, undergraduate chemistry majors and graduate students.
Dr. Keller’s work as a researcher is revered. He has authored or co-authored twenty-four research articles related to organic chemistry in books and journals. His ability to combine the disciplines of organic chemistry and molecular biology was unique to the Department for many years.
He has a strong record of service to his Department, College and the University. He has served as Department Chair and made significant contributions to the promotion and tenure process at all levels of the University. He has been a shining example of professional leadership for many years. His commitment to high standards while maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic approach to science is highly valued by his colleagues and students alike.
