Mr. Charles N. Dexter
Professor of Applied Business, Emeritus
Mr. Charles N. Dexter has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1985 to 2012.
He exemplifies all the best qualities to which any University professor could aspire. His teaching style is dynamic, passionate and effective, and he has motivated thousands of students over the years to reach their fullest potential, professionally and personally. Faculty peers seek his advice and counsel on a regular basis, and several consider his mentorship the primary factor in their success.
Under Mr. Dexter’s leadership and vision, the applied business program at the Community and Technical College has grown into an academic powerhouse within the University, generating nearly five thousand student credit hours annually. He ensured that the program and classes taught under it met the needs
of the local business community, and that students received a real-world education that would make them
successful in their chosen careers.
Mr. Dexter is extremely involved in the Fairbanks community and is perhaps one of the University’s most recognized professors. He has conducted myriad trainings and workshops for local organizations, writes a popular business column for the local newspaper, and has served on numerous local boards, government committees, and advisory groups.
