Dr. David O. Porter
Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus
Dr. David O. Porter served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1993 to 2010.
He applied real-world knowledge of business in his classroom; and during his tenure as Dean of the School of Management did not limit his responsibilities to administrative duties but took an active interest in the quality of management education, an emphasis that endured throughout his career; and guided a number of doctoral candidates as Chair or member of their graduate committees.
Dr. Porter was deeply involved in assisting countries in the former Soviet Union during their transitions to democracy and a market economy; and whose highly regarded work in this area supported a faculty exchange between the School of Management and the Institute of Economics at Yakutsk State University.
He served the University faithfully as a member of the Faculty Senate; and made further contributions to the University and his colleagues by serving as Vice President of United Academics of Alaska, where he was instrumental in negotiating adjustments to faculty salaries and revisions to employee health insurance coverage.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. David O. Porter for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University.
