Dr. James N. Gladden
Professor of Political Science, Emeritus
Dr. James N. Gladden has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1985 to 2010.
He has been praised by students at all levels of academic preparation for his depth and breadth of knowledge, the meticulous care he devotes to improving their writing skills, and for engaging their minds in the study of abstract ideas; and has received many awards that attest to his skills as a teacher and advisor; and whose expertise was acknowledged through his selection as a Fulbright Scholar to Nigeria; and has made excellent contributions to northern and environmental studies at the University.
He has become an authority on wilderness values, and natural resource and public land use management and policy issues; and whose publications include many reports and reviews, peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and two books; and whose research has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation, which is an indication of its quality.
He is widely regarded as a model of collegiality who has served the University in numerous capacities at both the Department and University levels; and has extended his service to a wide public sphere by offering his expertise and insight as a presenter, peer reviewer and advisor both within the United States and abroad.
