Ms. Sheri Layral

Governance Coordinator and Faculty Senate Secretary, Emerita

WHEREAS Ms. Sheri Layral has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction from 1980 to 2008; and

WHEREAS Ms. Layral has supported the University of Alaska Fairbanks Faculty Senate since its inception and never wavered in that undertaking; and has provided extraordinary, sustained and commendable service to the University in her capacity as coordinator of the Governance Office; and

WHEREAS Ms. Layral has, with her thorough knowledge of academic guidelines, procedures and programs, served a vital role as the Faculty Senate formulated and implemented policies and regulations; and has mentored Faculty Senate presidents and members to help them be more effective in their roles; and has been an active participant in Senate proceedings; and has been invaluable for her historical memory and knowledge of the University; and

WHEREAS Ms. Layral has provided crucial support for initiatives put forth by faculty and students to change or influence academic policy; and has been instrumental in the formation of important committees such as the Faculty Senate Committee on the Status of Women; and has throughout maintained a high degree of professionalism and a pleasant and consistently cordial demeanor;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Sheri Layral for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Ms. Layral and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Ms. Sheri Layral as Governance Coordinator and Faculty Senate Secretary, Emerita; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Ms. Sheri Layral, and conveyed to Ms. Layral on this day of May 11, 2008.
