Stratospheric Ozone Research
We have measured stratospheric ozone with ozone sounding balloons for a number of stratospheric ozone campaigns (see historical page). We have also put a sequence of launch photos onto this site.
We operate the Dobson spectrometer (number 63) located on the roof of the Elvey Building, Fairbanks, Alaska. The spectrometer is a part of the NOAA/CMDL network. This spectrometer has operated at two sites in Alaska (the current site and a previous site at Poker Flats, Alaska, 30 km away) for 33 years. Seasonal cycle and long term trend data are available.
We are interested in improving the agreement between various techniques for retreiving the total ozone column density and are working in collaboration with other scientists to acheive this goal.
You can use the Earth Probe satellite to figure out how much ozone is overhead your location by checking the NASA TOMS interface.
