GRADUATE STUDY IN CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

The University of Alaska Fairbanks offers both Doctorate and Master level graduate degrees.

A Ph.D. degree can be earned in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Environmental Chemistry. The chemistry graduate experience at UAF is tailored to the students interests. The Environmental Ph.D. program at UAF can be interdisciplinary so that interaction with research institutes (such as the Geophysical Institute, the Institute of Arctic Biology, the Institute of Marine Science, or the Institute of Northern Engineering) is one option available to the student. The Ph.D. program in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is ranked within the top 200 Biochemistry programs in the nation. Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) degree programs introduce students to advanced topics in chemistry and provide intimate contact with a research environment. Students are introduced to sources of advanced information in their fields and to the enjoyment of research. There are few fixed requirements. Individual programs may be tailored to the career goals and needs of the individual student. Up to 12 credits toward the M.S. degree may be earned for research and the preparation of a thesis. No thesis is required for the M.A. degree.

An on-line application is available. Initial evaluation of applications will begin January 15 for admission the following September.

Applicants from countries other than the USA should also visit Information for International Students at the Admissions Department home page.

Financial Aid: Teaching and research assistantships in chemistry and biochemistry are available to qualified graduate students.
