NO CLASS FRIDAY!!

Hang up posters BEFORE class on Monday

Poster Reviews due at 5:00p.m., Wednesday, 12/11/00

(time due was changed from 9:15 a.m. noted in syllabus)

Quiz 3: Wednesday 12/11/00

Assignment of slide or poster format for Presentation #4

Objectives:

  1. Know how PRPP levels influence purine and pyrimidine nucleotide synthesis.
  2. Distinguish between de novo synthesis from salvage pathway. Note metabolic defects of Lesch-Nyhan syndrome.
  3. Recognize de novo synthetic pathways for synthesis of UMP; contrast carbamoyl phosphate synthase II (pyrimidine synthesis) with carbamoyl phosphate synthase I (urea cycle).
  4. Describe the metabolic defects, orotic aciduria, SCID and gout.
  5. Know what compounds are produced by degradation of purines and pyrimidines.
  6. Be thankful that #5 was the last objective you need to learn for biochemistry, fall 2000!! It has been fun!
