Objectives:
- Know structure, use and common name for ethyne (acetylene).
- Know IUPAC names for benzene containing compounds.
- Know what resonance means and what the inner circle in benzene represents.
- Know the difference between aromatic and aliphatic.
- Know the meaning of ortho, meta and para substitution.
- Know that benzene is more toxic than toluene or xylene (dimethylbenzene) but that they are all toxic!
- Be familiar with the structures for toluene, xylene, phenol, styrene and naphthalene.
