Medical Emergencies

Life-threatening emergencies dial 911

For health problems which are urgent but not life threatening (for example injuries, urinary tract infections, emergency contraception) please call the Center at 474-7043. The Center allows for urgent care appointments on a daily basis and we do our best to see students promptly when needed. If the Center is not open, refer to the After-Hours Care section below.

Counseling Emergencies

If you feel suicidal or are thinking often about death or dying, talk with someone nearby right away (e.g. a residence hall advisor or professor) and call us at 474-7043 or come in to the Center immediately to get some help. If the Center is not open (at night or on the weekends), call 911.

Other traumatic events or situations require or may benefit from immediate attention including: sexual assault, domestic or relationship violence, recent personal loss, or other seriously upsetting experience. Emergency intake appointments are available at the Center for Health and Counseling - call at 474-7043. For after hours counseling emergencies, call the Fairbanks Community Hotline at 452-2293 sponsored by Interior Alaska Center for Non-violent Living. In non-emergency situations, call the Center for Health and Counseling during regular office hours.

After Hours Medical Care
If urgent health care services are needed when the Center is closed, students should access community medical care providers. Fairbanks Urgent Care is open 7 days a week including some evening hours and some clinics, e.g. Tanana Valley Clinic, also have expanded hours. The Emergency Room at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital is open 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. See Resources/Links for information on contacting these and other community providers.
