John C. "Jake" Poole
Vice Chancellor for University Advancement
John C. "Jake" Poole assumed responsibilities as vice chancellor for university advancement in September 2004.
He is responsible for UAF alumni affairs, public relations, development, intercollegiate athletics, KUAC public radio and TV, and university marketing.
Poole has over 30 years of experience in teaching, vocational and adult education, organizational operations, community affairs, alumni affairs, intercollegiate athletics, and university administration.
Poole was the director of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Tanana Valley Campus from 1999-2004. He previously served as interim director of TVC, special assistant to the chancellor for athletics and as the UAF Alumni Association executive director.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1975 and his master's degree in education from Pepperdine University in 1978. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces Staff College.
He came to UAF after completing a 22-year career in the U.S. Army. He and his family lived in Fairbanks from 1992-1995 when he was garrison commander at Fort Wainwright. Poole retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997.
Poole serves on numerous committees and boards throughout the state, including the Fairbanks Community Food Bank Board of Directors, the BP Exploration (Alaska) Community Advisory Board, the Foraker Group Operations Board, Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Fairbanks Rotary Club, and was a co-chair of the 2004 United Way campaign.
Poole is a recipient of the Golden Nugget Award from the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his community service and the American Red Cross Clara Barton Award for volunteer leadership.
He and his wife Janice and son Christopher live in Fairbanks.
