Wood pellets are a high-energy, clean-burning fuel that can be produced from almost any wood or wood waste product. In rural Alaska, the high cost of oil and the availability of woody biomass have led many communities to become interested in small-scale community pelletizing operations. This publication gives a brief overview of how wood pellets are made and whether a community should consider producing its own pellets.
