HOUSE of the MONTH

APRIL-JUNE 2006

If you know of a house/building/structure that demonstrates the challenges of building in Alaska and would like to share it with us, please send a picture and a short description of the structure and its features to Rich Seifert.

Zero Energy House

This is the "Nullenergihuset", the zero energy house, the first of its kind, built at the Technical University of Denmark in 1974. It was a fairly successful attempt to demonstrate that a house could be entirely heated from the solar energy it collects in the summer, throughout the whole winter. The original concept was originated by Professor Vagn Korsgaard, then a professor at the Technical University of Denmark.
