Cooperative Extension Service

BACKGROUND

WHO ARE WE: We are the Energy and Housing Program for the Cooperative Extension Service. Rich Seifert (Rich's curriculum vitae), Energy and Housing Specialist has been with the Cooperative Extension Service since 1982. Rich graduated with a B.S. in physics from West Chester state college in Pennsylvania, and attended UAF for a Masters in Engineering Physics. Prior to his academic career, Rich spent his time garnering a taste for Pennsylvania Dutch pretzels in Bucks County, PA. Anthea Craven, the Department's secretary, hails from Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) via Iowa, and has been with the Extension since 1993. We are proud to have partnered with a number of Vista Volunteers over the past few years and hope to do so again in coming years. Garrison Collette, Rich's assistant, was hired as an Extension liaison to the Cold-climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC). Garrison is a local Fairbanksan and completed his undergraduate degree in 2006 with a major in chemistry and minor in foreign languages. Garrison works on joint CCHRC and Extension projects, and is based at the Research Center. His primary focus is modernizing the renewable energy and energy efficiency education in Alaska.

OUR MISSION:To objectively bring the best possible housing technology information to Alaskan home owners and builders. Using the research facilities of the University and the national research networks of Federal institutions and private corporations, Extension tries to bring you through newsletters, publications, and personal consultations in education, the best information we can provide on housing technology.

WHERE ARE WE: The Energy and Housing Program operates out of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, although pamphlets and publications can be picked up at most of the branch offices around Alaska. We are located in the Cooperative Extension Service building on the UAF campus. We straddle the F11 and F12 boundary line on this map grid. For an aerial photograph of the campus click here. In this picture we are at the very bottom left center. MAP CES on MapQuest.
