Bob works with forest resources including residential wood heating, rural development, home horticulture, pest management, and mining/mineral development. He also serves as faculty chair of the CES Natural Resources & Community Development Program.

Karen Petersen is ourprofessional staff based in Thorne Bay. Karen does get to drive on Prince of Wales Island's extensive road system. Karen works with wood biomass, small business development, and rural tourism. She received her Master's from UAF Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development (DANSRD) almost entirely by distance education. Besides local duties, Karen provides staff support to the Alaska Wood Energy Development Task Group (AWEDTG) in cooperation with Alaska Energy Authority (AEA).
