Description: Quackgrass is a perennial grass that develops from seed as well as sharp rhizomes that can pierce the roots of other plants. The plant grows to 3 feet tall. Leaves are 0.25 to 0.5 inch wide and are slightly hairy on the upper side. Flower clusters are arranged on spikes in two rows. Quackgrass was introduced from the Mediterranean area. Control: Perennial
plants require depletion of nutrient reserves in the root system, prevention
of seed production and prevention of dispersal. The roots should not be
broken up. Individual root pieces may produce new plants. |
