Alaska Invasvive Species Conference Guest Speaker Highlight:

The 2007 Alaska Invasive Species Conference is pleased to welcome Dr. Gregory M. Ruiz, senior scientist with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Marine Invasion Research Laboratory.

Dr. Ruiz will speak on "Coastal Marine Invasions in Alaska: Patterns, Processes and Predictions." He will talk about latitudinal patterns of marine invasions, focusing particular attention on western North America and Alaska. Dr. Ruiz has done a great deal of research with Regional Citizens' Advisory Councils and the US Fish and Wildlife Service focused in Alaska, and will underscore his current state of knowledge and research in Alaska.

He will use the broader patterns (across latitudes) to explore/predict future changes in invasion dynamics for Alaska, focusing on the interaction of climate and human activities.
