National 4-H Common Measures

This is a "set of common outcomes and indicators for science, healthy living, citizenship, and overarching youth development work." There are two sets, those for use with 4th-7th grades and those for use with 8th-12th grades.

Life Skills Evaluation System

This system makes it easy to create surveys for assessing life skills outcomes by choosing from a list of common outcomes as well as adding your own specific outcomes for each program/project area. The system allows the user to tabulate data and print reports for sharing with stakeholders and sponsors as well as for reporting.

CYFAR Common Measures

This site provides ready made surveys for assessing life skills outcomes as well as basic demographics, core competencies, and program quality.

4-H 101 Training

The revised 4-H 101 is designed to be a general overview and resource guide for youth development staff or volunteers who are starting new 4-H clubs or working with existing clubs. You can find the basic 4-H 101 training on the web at www.4-hmilitarypartnerships.org/. 4-H 101 merges the basic concepts and principles of effective youth development delivered from a non-formal (out of school) setting with the "nuts and bolts" information needed to manage a 4-H program. 

This revised curriculum, formerly "Moving Ahead," is a comprehensive staff development training that provides an overview of the competencies needed for those choosing to work with young people in out-of-school seetings. These include understanding critical needs and competencies, methods of non-formal education, addressing risk and building protective factor, dealing with differences, conflict resolution, programming for developmental needs, understanding negative and self destructive behaviors, and forging youth and adult partnerships.

Promoting 4-H

In 2009, 4-H was featured on the Today Show, where Dr. Richard Lerner of Tufts University was interviewed by Meridth Viera concerning the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development (it comes up about 4 minutes into the video).

Volunteer Curriculum

4-H VRKC – Skills and competencies for successful volunteers. Quick and easy access to lesson plans with Powerpoint and handouts.

Everyone Ready – Volunteerism for the Next Generation. Online seminars and self-instruction guides on relevant topics for you to be successful in working with volunteers. Materials available at your convenience. Choose from archived topics that are helpful to you.

Interactive hands-on Essential Elements training – This peer-reviewed training curriculum helps youth workers and leaders understand each of the eight elements and how to incorporate them in on-going 4-H programs.

The training curriculum consists of 10 modules. Each module can be taught as a stand-alone session of one hour or combined together for a 10-12 hour course.

P.O.V. – A collection of one page summary sheets highlighting trends and best practices in volunteer development. Information is made available through a grant from Monsanto and incorporates information found in "Everyone Ready."
