Southeast Alaska 4-H Clubs

Alaska Way of Life
Cloverbuds (Ages 5-7) Summer Schedule:
Adventure every Tuesday from 10am - 11:30am (through July). Cloverbuds will explore the Alaska way of life by going on hikes, harvesting wild edibles, learning about plants and inter tidal zone critters. 
 
Garden every Friday from 9 - 10am (through July). Cloverbuds will get dirty and explore the life cycle of a vegetable from seed to plate. In partnership with 4-H, SCS, and the Community Fellowship Farm.
 
4-H (8+) Summer Schedule
Cooking: Wednesdays in July (2, 8, 26) we will get together and cook with wild and harvested greens, and salmon from 10:30am-12:30pm
 
Land and Sky: July 7-11 from 3-4:30pm we will explore the Tongass from land to sky with the rangers at the Sitka National Historical Park. We will learn about the evolution of importance of the trees in Southeast Alaska, tides and tidal life, local wild edible and medicinal plants, and bird behavior and migration through sound identification. 
 
Kayak: July 22-25 4-H members will be learning water safety as we get out to explore in our boats!
 
Fishing Clinic: Participants will learn how to cast, assemble a rod and reel, make spinners, and practice fishing in fresh and salt water. Dates and times TBD. In partnership with 4-H, SCS, and ADF&G.

Accolades for Some of Our Outstanding Volunteers!

Bruce Bowler, Volunteer Leader of the 4-H Shooting Sports Club, was one of twenty finalists for the 2011 Citizen Service Before Self Honors by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Diana Stevens, Volunteer Leader of the 4-H Shotokan Karate Club, is a 2011 Woman of Distinction honoree for the AWARE organization (Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies).   

Ken Coate and Linda Coate, Volunteer Leaders of the 4-H Outdoor Skills Club, have recently been announced as  2010 Volunteer Instructors of the Year with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game Hunter's Information and Training Program.
