
Requirements
To enroll in a certificate program, and before receiving a certificate, you must formally be admitted. To earn a certificate, you may enroll in any course for which you are eligible. To earn a certificate, you must earn at least 30 credits, including transfer credit. Fifteen semester hours must be residence credits. You must have a grade point average of 2.0 in all work, as well as in your major.
Majors Available for Certificate Programs
Airframe, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Applied Business, Applied Mining Technology, Community Health, Culinary Arts, Drafting Technology, Early Childhood, Fire Science, Ground Vehicle Maintenance, Medical/Dental Reception, Native Language Education, Office Management and Technology, Phlebotomy and Laboratory Assisting, Powerplant and Rural Health Services.
Associate Degrees
ASSOCIATE OF ARTS
The Associate of Arts degree represents the completion of broad-based college study. This degree may serve as a starting point for your career or as a stepping-stone to a baccalaureate program. You may earn only one A.A. degree.
All credits for the A.A. degree must be at the 100 level or above with 20 credits at the 200 level or above, and be distributed as follows:
ENGL 111X -- Methods of Written Communication (3 credits)
ENGL 211X -- Intermediate Exposition with Modes of Literature COMM 131X -- Fundamentals of Oral Communication: Group Context MATH 107X -- Functions of Calculus** OR MATH 131X -- One natural science course, with lab, selected from the baccalaureate core (4 credits)
Mathematics or natural science elective (3 credits)
ANTH 100X/SOC 100X -- Individual, Society and Culture (3 credits)
ECON 100X/PS 100X -- Political Economy (3 credits)
HIST 100X -- Modern World History (3 credits)
ART/MUS/THR 200X -- Aesthetic Appreciation: Interrelationship ENGL/FL 200X -- World Literatures (3 credits)
Humanities or social science elective (3 credits)
Two semester-length courses in a single Alaska Native language or other Successful completion of library skills competency test or Successful completion of the library skills competency test satisfies this requirement of the core curriculum, but does not carry degree credit. Any combination of courses. (Students planning to go on to the * ENGL 212 doesn't fulfill the second half of the written communication requirement for the baccalaureate degree.
** MATH 161 -- Algebra for Business and Economics, is not an equivalent course for MATH 107X.
