Law Enforcement

LE 110      1 Credit
Cultural and Behavioral Strategies
for Law Enforcement Officers
Introduction to a number of behavioral strategies to facilitate interaction among various cultures to be found in Alaska. Provides the student with a strong concept of police ethics as it relates to performance of police duties. An introduction to problems and strategies for law enforcement officers in their relationships to their marriages and families. Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers. Course fee: $55. (1 + 0) Offered As Demand Warrants

Enforcement Skills for Law Enforcement Officers
Introduction to the basic skills necessary to use firearms (both pistol and shotgun), operate a motor vehicle under emergency conditions and use Oleo Capsicum (pepper) spray effectively. Students are taught a continuum on the use of force, judgment in the use of deadly force, physical defense tactics and physical arrest. Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers. Course fee: $460. (2 + 8) Offered As Demand Warrants

Law Enforcement Operations
Preparation to conduct specific investigations into auto theft, commercial vehicle incidents, domestic violence events, DWI detection, juvenile procedures, care of the emotionally disturbed, report writing and jail procedures. Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers. Course fee: $350. (3 + 3) Offered As Demand Warrants

Basic Police Procedures
Introduction to conducting investigations using approved methods at any major crime scene. Skills in interview and interrogation, crime scene physical evidence collection, hostage situations, accident scene investigation and mapping are taught. Introduction to the dangers of blood-borne pathogens and appropriate protective measures. Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers. Course fee: $215. Criminal Law for Police
Introduction to the more complex issues of criminal law. The Alaska Statutes, constitutional law and court decisions as well as traffic law, search and seizure, rights of defendants and warrant procedures. Students must meet basic Police Standards qualifications for police officers. Course fee: $100. (4 + 0) Offered As Demand Warrants
