The science management curriculum is designed for graduate scientists who will hold executive or managerial positions in engineering, construction, industrial or governmental organizations. It includes human relations, financial, economic, quantitative, technical and legal subjects useful in solving management problems.

 

Graduate Program

Science Management -- M.S. Degree

  1. Complete the following admission requirements:
    1. Complete a bachelor's degree in a scientific field.
    2. Submit GRE scores.
  2. Complete the general university requirements.
  3. Complete the master's degree requirements (page 46).
  4. Complete a programming course or a qualifying examination.
  5. Present project reports which provide comprehensive analysis and propose solutions to a situation in an engineering or scientific management setting. Pass an oral comprehensive examination.
  6. Complete the following:
    ESM 601 -- Engineers in Organizations (3 credits)
    ESM 609 -- Project Management (3 credits)
    ESM 684 -- Engineering/Science Management Project (3 credits)
    Technical electives in the student's specialty (9 credits)
  7. Complete 1 of the following:
    ESM 608 -- Legal Principles for Engineering Management (3 credits)
    BA 607 -- Human Resources Management* (3 credits)
  8. Complete the following:
    ACCT 602 -- Accounting for Managers** (3 credits)
    ESM 605 -- Engineering Economy** (3 credits)
  9. Complete the following:
    ESM 620 -- Statistics for ESM (3 credits)
    ESM 621 -- Operations Research (3 credits)
  10. Minimum credits required (30 credits)

* School of Management courses can be applied to no more than 12 credits of the ESM program.
** If a student has had a course in engineering economy, ACCT 602 may be taken; otherwise, ESM 605 and ACCT 602 are required.
Note: Substitutes for courses are permitted if similar courses are included in the student's previous academic background. Both substitutes and transfer of credit (maximum 9 credits) must be approved by the department.
