Hello UAF staff and faculty! Here at Career Services, it is one of our top priorities to assist students, alumni, and staff. You can help us do this by promoting our office to students and graduates! We provide Career Counseling in the form of Resume Review, Cover Letter Critique, and Mock Interviews. We also have a variety of recruitment events each year.
If you are a supervisor of student employees, you may need to know about Student Employee Waiver Forms:
Per University Regulation, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits to qualify for student employment, must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and are limited to working no more than 20 hours per week.
In limited circumstances UAF may approve greater than 20 hours per week, or may waive the minimum GPA requirement, for domestic students; international students are always limited to working no more than 20 hours per week and the 6 credit minimum for all students may never be waived.
A waiver is NOT required if a student is working for two or more departments, but the hiring departments should coordinate student hours to avoid paying unanticipated overtime and/or inadvertently placing the student into a taxable status. Ask your PPA to check a student's existing employee status and to coordinate student hours.
If you are a supervisor seeking to employ a student with a GPA of less than 2.0, please be prepared to identify how you will assist the student in raising his or her GPA to stay on track for graduation.
