Visitor Industry Job Fair: February 2006
Students and community members seek summer/seasonal and full-time jobs in Alaska's visitor industry. This event is a co-sponsorship with the Alaska Travel Industry Association.
Career Expo: March 2006
Employers from all fields including law enforcement, governmental agencies, business, science, computer science, and engineering fields seek students and community members for full-time jobs and summer internships.
Accounting Week: October 2005
Local and national accounting firms interview and hire UAF graduates for full-time positions. This event is a partnership with the UAF School of Management.
Engineering & Computer Science Week: October 2005
Engineering and technical firms on campus for informational and position specific interviews, information sessions and hiring for full-time and internship positions. This event is a partnership with the UAF College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics and the UAF College of Engineering & Mines .
Fall Career & Internship Fair: Wednesday, November 9, 2005, 10-5 PM, Wood Center Commons. Employers from all fields visit campus to recruit for spring and summer internships as well as
professional positions. |
JOB POSTINGS
* Job Board: Career Services will post job a job for employers on our online Job Board. These postings will stay up for two weeks unless there is a closing date on the job description. We request that all job descriptions are emailed to us as an attachment.
* Qualifications: The Job Board is preferably for employers who do not have their job descriptions listed online. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.
* Job Descriptions: Available by request is the Career Services Job Board template which may be used if an employer does not have a job description or needs help in creating one.
* Employer Information Files: This is a location for your organization's literature and applications. Students and alumni review this information during their career research and interview preparation.
* Internet Resources: For those employers who already have their job listings listed online, we have an Internet Resources page where employers are listed under Industry specific sites *

ON-CAMPUS RECRUITING
If you're interested in coming on campus, we can assist you in meeting your recruiting goals. Our objective is to ensure that your on-campus recruiting at UAF is as efficient and effective as possible. We request five weeks notice for an individual employer visit. Please complete the on campus recruitment forms and return them by fax to: (907) 474-7900.
On campus recruiting can involve any or all of these options:
- Application materials collection (Can include prescreening for base qualifications. On campus interviews can be scheduled during the academic year and includes application screening; an "open" recruitment indicates that all applicants with base qualification will be scheduled for interviews while a "closed" recruitment involves the employer will screen the applicants before interview times are set.)
- Information sessions (Can be coordinated to answer in-depth questions, spend informal time with applicants and potential applicants and/or show company videos. If on campus, we can provide all logistical support including marketing, room scheduling, food and beverage scheduling and equipment needs. )
- Class presentations can be scheduled directly with faculty for appropriate classes. Please see UAF Telephone Directory or contact the Career Center for assistance.
- Lunch with Faculty/Staff Can be scheduled with Career Center staff. UAF Staff and Faculty are interested in learning more about your organization!
Advertising for on campus recruiting visits includes:
- Hard copy postings campus-wide
- Web site advertisement
- Dissemination to student email list
- Targeted advertising to relevant faculty and staff
- Posting on UAF Web Calendar
On campus recruiting tips and requests:
- Please send job descriptions or materials for each position listed as soon as possible for the best distribution to students. There is no charge for the UAF Career Services on campus recruiting program. Please keep in mind that space, dates & specific rooms are available on a limited basis on a first come basis. Request your recruitment as early as possible!
- Students greatly appreciate quick feedback, whether positive or negative. Quickly notify those students who you have screened out. Stay in regular contact with those who are a possible fit, keeping them informed of the progress of your process.
- Please contact us if we can provide you with additional information or if you need assistance contacting students. Please keep us informed of any offers and/or hires you make.

CREATING AN IMAGE ON CAMPUS
We suggest the following as proven ways to increase your organization's presence at UAF:
- Advertise in the student newspaper, the Sun Star, information and ad rates (contact us for info)
- Create and successfully manage a quality internship position or program
- Host an information session in conjunction with your visit to campus
- Visit club meetings and classes to present field specific information
- Keep current and relevant information on file in our Employer Information Area and Video Library
- Attend and/or help sponsor a job fair or special event on campus
- Support campus events through sponsorship or volunteering
- Have a representative on campus at least once a year
- Get involved in our Job Shadow Program (Fairbanks employers only)
