The Irving Building houses the Institute of Arctic Biology, the Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and Institute of Marine Science labs, classrooms and offices. Laurence Irving was a long-time faculty member at UAF and was widely recognized as a pioneering arctic biologist. He did much to help establish the university as a leader in the area of arctic research.
