Elvey Building

The seven-story C.T. Elvey Building was built in 1970 to house UAF's expanding Geophysical Institute. Christian T. Elvey was born in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1899 and began his career in astronomy and physics while still a student. He became known internationally as both an author and a scientist and made significant contributions to the fields of astrophysics and geophysics. He served as managing director of the G.I. and was the university's first vice president for research and advanced study.
