For Students
Can you tell whether your subsistence food is contaminated?
Do you want to know whether the salmon in your river are the same as the salmon in a lake downstream?
Modern science can help you find the answer!
During the summer months, the six-week Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) Research program and the two-week Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA) modules can help you find your way into a science career. Not only will you earn college credit, you’ll also have a chance to compete for free college tuition!
Each of these programs offers different opportunities.
In RAHI Research, you’ll learn basic laboratory techniques, use these skills under the guidance of University researchers and complete your very own research project.
In the ASRA Biomedicine module, you will receive hands-on learning at the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and biology labs at UAF.
In ASRA Genetics, you will learn the basics of molecular techniques and DNA in fun, integrative setting.
Or maybe you’d rather do your exploring during the school year. If that's the case, talk to your teacher and have them contact us about bringing the excitement of hands-on science into your classroom.
The sciences need you. Contribute to scientific discoveries of the future. For more information please explore the Program Offerings section of this website or contact:
