For Students
Can you tell whether your subsistence food is contaminated? Do you want to know whether the salmon in your river are the same as the salmon in a lake downstream? Modern science can help you find the answer.
The Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) II Next Step and Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA) can help you find your way into a science career. Not only will you earn college credit, you’ll also have a chance to compete for free college tuition.
During the summer, you’ll learn basic laboratory techniques and work your way up to DNA sequencing in RAHI II. In ASRA you’ll work in Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and biology labs at UAF or learn about cloning a dinosaur in Jurassic Genetics. Perhaps you'd like to learn about genetics in a two-week residential program on the North Slope. If so, the Jurassic Genetics: North Slope Edition may be for you.
Or maybe you’d rather do your exploring during the school year. If that's the case, talk to your teacher and have them call us about bringing the excitement of hands-on science into your classroom.
The sciences need you. Contribute to scientific discoveries of the future. For more information contact:
