Bristol Bay Adult Education Program (ABE)
ABE is funded by the State of Alaska, Department of Labor and Workforce Development Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation (BBEDC).
Overview
The Bristol Bay Adult Education Program mission is to provide basic education instruction to the general public and to the labor workforce so individuals can:
- Advance to a higher academic level
- Improve job skills to begin, retain, or advance employment
- Enter post secondary or vocational technical training
The Bristol Bay Adult Education Program has instructors and staff in many rural communities throughout the Bristol Bay Region. Mainstream campuses are located in Togiak, King Salmon, and Dillingham.
All of these centers offer Bristol Bay residents individualized, free instruction in the fundamentals of:
- Reading proficiency
- Mathematics
- Writing
- Computer skills
We also provide instruction and counseling to prepare adults to attain the General Education Development Certification (GED).
"Workplace Development Skills " are tailored to achieve individual career needs and continual advancement goals.
Personalized Assistance
We help students with supportive services such as: child care options, transportation to and from our facilities, and the ability to study in a tranquil and comfortable learning environment.
We can also assist individuals in their "Life Skills" such as:
- Internet and keyboarding programs available for enrolled students
- Household budgeting
- Writing successful resumes
- Provide study materials for the Department of Motor Vehicles driver's test
We provide individual tutoring and unique classes for adults who may have a learning disadvantage.
