I am ambitious to the extreme. I value hard work, consistency, and, above all, love. I am
a mathematics major, a prelaw student, and have been involved in student activities in
the past. This includes being a SWEET Scholar, an ASUAF Senator, the President of
Sigma Phi Epsilon, an Honors Student, a Mathematics Tutor, and many other things. Off-
campus, I am a skilled laborer (Local 942), son, brother, and uncle. Health is important to
me. My favorite exercise is the deadlift, followed closely by the squat. I love to live life
quickly, but I realize that there are times when it's necessary to slow down. In particular,
while listening to others.
I break down goals into nine categories. Which are found by taking two classifications
(each of three categories) and multiplying them together. That is, taking a cartesian
product from the sets {Visions, Plans, Action Items} and {Physical, Social, Mental}. So,
for example, a "Physical Action Item" on campus would be to make non-lactose milk
products available. Another example, a "Social Vision" on campus would be to increase
student involvement in student organizations. A final example, a "Mental Plan" would be
to gather information about advising alternatives on campus.
After developing a healthy list of goals, I use numerical methods to optimize the order
in which goals should be accomplished. After the healthy list has been ordered, I find
the most efficient method of accomplishing the goals. All that's necessary to vitalize the
method is motivation and input. Motivation should be easy. As far as input goes, I figure
what is most important is getting everyone on campus' voice heard. This will keep the
student government thinking outside the box and always adjusting to new influences.
I would like to be your Student Body President.
Thank you for your consideration.
My name is Erika Phelps. I am currently in my third year at UAF. I’m majoring in linguistics with a minor in French. I hope to work for the French Consulate teaching english in French schools. I want to be Vice President of ASUAF so I can collaborate with different groups on campus and work to make the university better for all students. I am currently a member of Traditions Board, in the fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and I work as a desk attendant in Lathrop Hall. I enjoy working with my colleagues on the
Traditions Board to arrange not only the university traditions, but to bring the student body more activities for little to no cost. In Alpha Phi Omega I like to spend my time serving the nation, community, and campus. We work closely with the university to provide many of the activities and services this campus provides. Also, as a vegan, I would like to work to get more special diet options on campus for people that need or want more dietary options. As a member of ASUAF I hope to be of service to my fellow students. I believe the students should be listened to and represented in an unbiased
manner. I look forward to serving the campus in as many ways possible.
