The Alaska Summer Research Academy

Dorm Activities

Every evening residential students are offered a wide range of activities put together by our Activities Coordinator and led by our dorm staff. All activities are designed to be inclusive, with the goals of having fun and making friends. Many students make life-long friends.

There is always something active, like frisbee, soccer, swimming, volleyball, walking or running on the beautiful UAF trail system, basketball, or capture the flag.

Creative offerings include making duct tape art and clothes, origami,  hot air balloons, stained glass, and tie dye. The last night of camp we have a talent show that ranges from singing to Rubik's cube time challenges.

Social and laid back activities include dancing lessons (swing, salsa etc), liquid nitrogen ice cream parties, watching live Shakespeare plays, movies, reading, video games, and hanging with friends.

Some activities offer intellectual challenge such as chess, Go, board games, casino games (statistics and probablility - no $ allowed), and LAN parties.

Several evenings and Sunday will offer field trips to local spots of interest. Students can visit caribou and muskox at the Large Animal Research Station, see the Alaska pipeline, felt wool at an organic farm, hike in Denali Park for the day and many other fun trips.
