Airport Pickup
Once accepted into ASRA, please make travel plans as soon as possible. Airfares increase constantly in the summer and seats fill up quickly. Send your itinerary to Kate Pendleton at fnkp@uaf.edu 907-474-7221.
The program begins at noon on Monday, July 20, and ends Friday afternoon, after all presentations are finished in the late afternoon.
Students arriving at Fairbanks International Airport will be met by ASRA staff at the airport. Students from out of town should arrive no earlier than Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM, July 19, 2009. Many flights arrive at 1 AM. This is not a problem and our staff is available to pickup students 24 hours a day. Students will remain in the care of ASRA until staff delivers them to the airport for departure.
Departures should be scheduled after 5 PM on Friday, July 31. If necessary, students may stay overnight on Friday and depart on Saturday no later than 5 PM for an additional $50 to cover meals, lodging and staff time.
Be advised that airlines can have various definitions of a "minor traveling alone." The maximum age can range from 11-15, so it is good to check with your specific airlines regarding fees, regulations, and information you will need to give them about the person picking your child up at their destination. There will be ASRA staff designated to pick up minors traveling alone, and we can supply you with their names and addresses for the airline forms.
The Fairbanks International Airport is small, and there is only one exit from the arrival area. It will be easy for students to find the ASRA welcoming party, and staff will be looking for the students. The airport is located about 10 minutes from the UAF campus.
