Biomedicine
The Biomedicine students will have the opportunity to explore many career options in medicine. Students will work in the Emergency Room (ER), radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, and the Operating Room (OR).
Students will have the chance to be casted in the ER, type their own blood in the lab, ultrasound a pregnant woman, experience an MRI test in radiology, and go in to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital operating room and learn to scrub, suture, and intubate. Students will "operate" on pig eyes, hearts and lungs. There will be a chance to explore the medivac fixed wing plane at Guardian Flight and ride the ambulance to the hospital Students will earn their CPR and basic first aid card. Students will spend some time in biology labs at UAF.
In this module students will get a first hand look at all the exciting careers medicine has to offer, and have the chance to talk to professionals in each career field. If you are interested in any career in the health care field, this is the module for you!
