ASRA :: Forensics Module

A crime has been committed in the wilds of Alaska. Three teams of students from the ASRA Forensics Module are challenged to assist the Alaska Department of Fish and Game with reconstructing the crime by collecting and examining the evidence. In reality, most forensic investigation is compartmentalized; however, team members will be introduced to many techniques from some of the following areas:

  • Crime scene processing and evidence collection
  • Print analysis – finger, shoe, tire
  • Material analysis – paint, soil
  • DNA analysis
  • Toxicology
  • Hair and fiber analysis
  • Arson investigation
  • Tool impressions
  • Forensic entomology
  • Document analysis
  • Legal considerations

Team members will use scientific investigation methods to determine if there is evidence to identify and arrest a suspect. A Powerpoint presentation of the investigation will be presented at the end of the session.
