We will have the opportunity to explore many career options in medicine as we follow our “victim” from accident scene, to the Emergency Room, radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, and the operating room. Students will have the chance to be casted in the ER, type their own blood in the lab, ultrasound a pregnant lady, get in the MRI machine in radiology, and go in to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital operating room to learn to scrub, suture, intubate, and dissect pig eyes, hearts and lungs. We may also explore the medivac fixed wing plane at Guardian Flight, riding the ambulance to get there, in addition to exploring the medivac helicopter at Ft. Wainwright, watching it land on the hospital heli-pad. Students will also earn their CPR and basic first aid card.

We will also spend some time in the labs at UAF, and work with the sports trainer, learning about physical therapy.

Students get a first hand look at all the exciting careers medicine has to offer, and have the chance to talk to professionals in each career field. If you are interested in any career in the health care field, this is the module for you!
