Admission Requirements
Admission to the program in atmospheric sciences generally requires a degree in a scientific discipline, one year of calculus-based physics, math through differential equations, and one semester of chemistry. Since atmospheric science is a highly interdisciplinary field, incoming student's backgrounds vary considerably. Thus, acceptance into the program is made on a case-by-case basis.

LOOKING FOR NEW GRADUATE STUDENTS!!!! What do you need to do to apply for graduate school and obtain financial support?
1. A completed Graduate Application Form. Download form to apply for graduate school, print, fill out and send in with $50 to the Admissions Office. All applicants are strongly urged to apply online (www.uaf.edu/admissions/) if possible. Please email the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at atmos@gi.alaska.edu to let us know you are applying so your application can be tracked.
2. Send official copies of all academic transcripts from each collegiate institution attended to the Admissions Office. Please email one unofficial copy to the Atmospheric Sciences Program at atmos@gi.alaska.edu.
3. Contact Educational Testing Service (ETS) to request your official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) be sent to UAF. The Department of Atmospheric Sciences does not require the GRE; however, UAF requires the GRE from prospective applicants with an undergraduate grade point average below 3.00. Please email an unofficial copy to the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at atmos@gi.alaska.edu.
4. All international students need to take the TOEFL test and Educational Testing Service (ETS) needs to send your official scores to UAF. Please email an unofficial copy to the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at atmos@gi.alaska.edu. The university’s minimum TOEFL requirements are 500 (paper-based test); 213 (computer-based test); or 80 (internet-based test).

Application Procedure Checklist:
- Fill out the application for graduate assistantship form. (Faculty in the Atmospheric Science Program will read this form)
- Fill out the Graduate Application for Admission. Please note that there is a $50.00 application fee which can be paid by check or credit card.
- Request your prior Universities and Colleges to send your official transcripts directly to the Admissions Office (P.O. Box 757480, Fairbanks, AK 99775-7480). (Unofficial transcripts may be attached to the application to expedite processing)
- Give the applicant evaluation form to your three references. Ask them to use this form for writing your reference letter. They must mail the form directly to the address below.
Additional procedures and forms

- Take the TOEFL test and have the scores sent directly to the University (school code is 4866)
