A picture of the rocket at pokerflat being sent offWhat will scientists measure?
Using sensitive low-light-level television cameras scientists will observe the movement of the trail against the back drop of stars in the sky and using triangulation determine upwelling air movements caused by the aurora

The predicted look angles for the moment in time shown above from Toolik, Arctic Village and Old Crow for a chemical trail 160 kilometers above the ground are: Toolik – 50 degrees, Arctic Village – 70 degrees, and Old Crow – 18 degrees

The vertical width of the trail is estimated to be one-fourth of a degree. The full moon is one-half degree in width.

We expect the trail to be lofted about three times its own vertical width over a period of 15 minutes by vertical winds.

This is a short animation of the rocket flying up into the air and then backdown. For more information click here.
