Metalsmithing and Jewelry

Instruction in metalsmithing
Instructor Nancy Boyer explains how a milling machine works to a student.


UAF Metalsmithing program offers undergraduate studio courses in jewelry making and metal fabrication. Students learn basic to advance techniques in Mokume Gane; metal alloying, forging and forming; stone setting and lapidary; surfacing techniques, including: enameling, milling, reticulating, chemical coloring; and metal casting of carved wax, cuttle fish, and free form, employing gravity, vacuum, and centrifuge techniques to facilitate jewelry making.
