Spring 2007: The Bering Sea and its Margins: History and Modern Processes

A weekly 1-hour seminar
Spring Semester, 2007 (Tuesdays 1:15-2:15 pm, Elvey Auditorium [214 Elvey]). Note new time and room

Focusing on the current research of the ancient and modern Bering Sea region, the series consists of numerous invited speakers, including (in no particular order) John Barron (USGS), Dave Scholl (USGS and UAF Chapman Prof.), Peter McRoy (UAF), Patricia Heiser (UAF), Bruce Finney (UAF), Owen Mason (UAA), Peter Schweitzer (UAF), Charlie Paull (Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Inst), Brenda Norcross (UAF), Terry Whitledge UAF), Alan Springer (UAF), Eddy Carmack (Oceans and Fisheries Canada and Chapman Prof.), and Sathy Naidu (UAF).

Topics covered by the seminar include: geologic history and basin formation--glaciations and sea level change--paleoecology--human prehistory--modern circulation, ecology, and fisheries (& climate change)--and coastal native cultures. While the seminar is listed as a one credit graduate class (see below), visitors are more than welcome to sit-in.
