As an applied anthropologist trained in law and agroecology, I examine how individuals, particularly Native Americans and Alaska Natives, define and seek health and wellness within their environments (biological, physical and cultural).   My current research focuses on food systems, specifically food assistance programs, perceptions of healthy eating, and alternative food movements, such as community-supported agriculture, using Fairbanks, Alaska as a case study. I work with students to create an active and engaged learning environment, and where appropriate, I incorporate community-based learning in partnership with community organizations.
