Profile
Dr. Murray conducts ecological and environmental archaeological research in the high latitude regions of North America. She has done archaeological field work in Ontario, Northern Ireland, coastal Newfoundland, Arctic Canada, and Alaska. Her current research is focused on human and natural system dynamics over the long-term in the Gulf of Alaska, the paleorecord of human impacts on fisheries and marine mammals in the circumpolar world, and the integration of archaeology, oceanography, human ecology and environmental toxicology for applied research on human and ecosystem health.
Dr. Murray has been the General Editor of the Anthropological Papers of the University of Alaska since 2001. She is currently the Director of the Human Dimensions of the Arctic System (HARC) Core Office, managed through the Center for Global Change at UAF. HARC is the human dimensions component of the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Arctic System Science Program (ARCSS). HARC works within an interdisciplinary context to synthesize Arctic Human Dimensions scientific knowledge and to integrate this knowledge into larger ARCSS syntheses efforts to understand climate and other kinds of regional and global change. |
