LOOKING AT INDIAN ART OF THE NORTHWEST COAST

nwc_7. Two Headed Eagle by Robert Davidson.

Haida. Bilateral or expansive style. S forms indicate the rib cage.

 nwc_8. Wolf by Gerry Marks.

Haida. Configurative style. Has all the identifying features of this animal, including canine teeth. The design is well conceived to fit the rectangular shape.

nwc_9. Haida Hawk by Freda Diesing.

Haida. Has a recurved beak to distinguish this bird from the eagle. The human face in the wing joint is female -- perhaps because the artist is.

nwc_10. Bird Tail with stylistic variation.

 nwc_11. Whale fluke.

Asymmetrical.

nwc_12. A tattoo design representing Wasgo, the mythical being which is part wolf, part whale.
