Description:

Adelung, Johann Christoph [1732-1806] was a highly influential German-language scholar. His grammars, dictionary, and works on style helped to standardize the language. At the time of his death, he was still at work on "Mithridates, oder allgemeine Sprachenkunde, 3 vol. (1806-1817; "Mithridates, or General Linguistics"), in which he collected the Lord's Prayer in some 500 languages and dialects [from the on-line version of Encyclopedia Britannica].

Vater, Johann Severin [1771-1826] provided additions.
