Title Evidentiality in Dena'ina Athabascan
Ts. conference paper describing the distribution and function of Dena'ina particles in the form -ida or -it. These are shown to be evidentials in a broad sense that they express speaker attitude toward knowledge (Chafe 1986). They occur as non-obligatory, phrase final particles which affect prosody by changing stress pattern from pre-stem (penultimate) to stem (ultimate) syllable. The -ida particles will be compared and contrasted with other Dena'ina particles which have been previously reported as evidentials.
