Sophie
Major:
Hometown:
Born in Orlando, Florida and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska
Class standing/years in college:
Applying for graduate school…so hopefully a graduate student by the end of this summer, and I have spent 3 years in college doing my undergraduate.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy talking and being with friends and family, practicing Taekwon-Do, working out, listening to music, playing the piano, reading, crocheting, and cooking.
Why did you choose to attend UAF?
UAF was a good place to start my education because I knew I would go on to medical school or graduate school after my undergraduate. UAF was also a good choice financially because of the scholarships I attained to attend UAF. The biology department at UAF also offers a lot of research opportunities to undergraduates, which was very appealing to me.
What do you like best about UAF?
The small class sizes, the professors' willingness to provide extra help, and the friendly/laid back atmosphere.
What extracurricular activities are you a part of?
Taekwon-Do, Muslim Student Association (MSA), and American Chemical Society (ACS)
What is one piece of advice you would give to a prospective student interested in biological sciences at UAF?
Definitely get involved with a professor on a research project, it is a great experience and the work that is done on campus is incredible.
What "field work" have you done at UAF that will help you find work in your major?
I have been researching with a professor, which carries a lot of weight if I was to become a researcher. The research I have been working on is in the biomedical field, so I hope that will aide me in getting accepted to medical school.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
After I complete my Master's degree in biology I plan on going on to medical school.
Anything else you'd like to add about yourself?
If you're looking for good places to eat, I can help!
