What do you like to do in your spare time?

Read, watch, and talk about sharks. reading comics, whitewater rafting, journeying the land. Talking about sociology is cool too.

Why did you choose to attend UAF?

Close to home would be good reason, but honestly it had everything I needed. The professors are super supportive and approachable, not to mention the rest of the great UAF supporting staff such as the Admissions folks and Financial Aid.

What do you like best about UAF?

Small class sizes and the personal interaction anyone can have with their professors.

What extracurricular activities are you a part of?

I belong to AKD, the sociology honors society, avid user of the Student Rec Center, of course the student ambassador program, and whatever student activities may come up.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a prospective student interested in sociology at UAF?

Being a sociology major at UAF, and this holds true for many other degree programs, gives a student a chance to take advantage of opportunities not present at every university. As a student I have traveled to sociology conferences and presented research that I co-authored as well as interacted with other students and professors from around the nation. The small class sizes and supportive professors can really give a student the chance to stand out not only in their department, but nationally as well. Taking those first steps towards publication or actually experiencing work done in your field is an invaluable experience open to most UAF undergraduates.

What "field work" have you done at UAF that will help you find work in your major?

I'm looking at seeking higher education past a BA and my experiences at UAF will help me stand out on applications for graduate school.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?

Swim with the sharks for a whole summer before having to return to the grind of higher education.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I'm always open for questions and if I don't know the answer I'll find someone who does!
