Explore Tanzania, an East African nation on the Indian Ocean with this travel experience that will go beyond the safari. Discover the people of a nation living somewhere between a traditional cultural existence and the threat of globalization. Learn how students receive access to education and technology. Appreciate the grassroots organizations behind alternative development. Meet the people behind the local community groups who are coming together in support of the development of children's and women's rights.
There is an optional side trip to the island of Zanzibar which was East Africa's slave trade center for over a thousand years. Explore how this island's slave trade history has directly affected Tanzania.
Deadline for registration: Sept. 1, 2009. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.
Tanzania program fee: $3,600/person double occupancy; $450 single supplement. Optional Zanzibar program fee: $1,000/person double occupancy; $150 single supplement. Program fee includes: Hotels, three meals a day, travel within Tanzania, educational programs, performances, and entrance fees to all scheduled events. Program fee does not include: Travel to and from Tanzania, and visa and passport fees.
